Extremely Rare 1817 Princess Charlotte In Memoriam Mug With over 3000 positive feedbacks you know you can trust us. A very rare example of this 1817 mug issued to commemorate the death of Princess Charlotte, this is an extremely rae mug, I doubt you will ever see another like it. The mug has a head and shoulder portrait of Princess Charlotte with the inscription "The late and much lamented Princess Charlotte of Saxe Coburg" beaneath but partly missing, it should read "Who died in Childbirth Nov 6th 1817" Princess Charlotte was the only child of George, the Prince of Wales (later George IV) and Queen Caroline and grand-daughter of George III. She was thus first in line of succession to the British Throne and had she lived would have taken the throne in place of Victoria. She married Prince Leopold of Saxe-Coburg in 1816 and then, tragically, died in childbirth on November 5th, 1817. Her death is said by some to have contributed to the madness of King George III. The mug is 2 3/4" - 70mm tall. This mug is nearly 200 years old and for such an early piece it is in good condition with only a fine hairline, (now stabilised) which shoes in the bottom picture.
