FOR SALE I have for sale an extremely rare 1872 1st Edition copy of "ANCIENT STONE IMPLEMENTS OF GREAT BRITAIN" by John Evans the famous Victorian Archaeologist and Antiquarian. This book is without doubt the definite reference book for any serious collector of British Paleolithic, Mesolithic or Neolithic implements and antiquities. The book is a large, heavy and robust hard back measuring 24 cm x 16.5 cm x 4.5 cm thick containing 640 pages of extremely detailed and informative text and the book is copiously filled with hundreds of the most detailed and exquisitely hand drawn illustrations of every conceivable type of Axe, Hammer, Arrowhead, Pick, Scraper as well as pottery and other miscellaneous stone age items.A 1st edition of this much sought after book itself is rare enough but this particular example belonged to William North Rice (1845 - 1928), a famous American Geologist and Professor of Geology at the Wesleyan University in Middletown, Connecticut , U.S.A. He was also an Educator, Methodist minister and Theologian concerned with the reconciliation of science and religious faith. The book bears his personal signature and date of 1873 inside the front cover. Information sheets giving more information about both John Evans and William North Rice will accompany the book but much information about these two famous antiquarians read more
