RELISTED DUE TO A TIME WASTER Hi and welcome to my auction for this piece of history, a pre 1930's genuine hawkes & son XX Century tenor saxophone. This saxophone belonged to my grandfather and his father before him, its been in my garage for the last 20 yrs so it is in need of some loving attention. I've been quoted £150 to re-pad it and resolder a key back on, it could probably do with a polish and lacquer as well, but once this hawkes and sons tenor is restored it will sound great again. I remember my grandfather playing it at family parties where he would wow us with its wonderful low pitch and very rocky tones that sounded fantastic. These are a highly sort after instrument both in the UK and abroad, as most were made for export to the USA this particular sax has the double accolade of being both rare in terms of being hard to find and rare in that the UK never produced that many saxophones, plus an added bonus it was made before Mr Bossey and Mr Hawkes merged there companies. I have been asked if the sax has any marks on it, the only marks I can see are on the right hand side there are 3 keys in a row under the top key of these 3 there is what looks like a b that is the only mark I can find using my reading gasses and a magifying glass. I would think you'll come across a fair few XX Century altos, but you'll be hard pressed read more
