This large size important Blue Funnel Line Officers wristwatch is of great interest to Collectors of Shipping Memorabilia and Wristwatch Collectors alike. The case is in super condition,no dents, etc. Large size onion crown, which is pushed in to adjust the hands. The case measures 38mm across without the crown, 43mm with the crown. The dial is marked with the Blue Funnel Line logo and Alfred Holt & Co, Liverpool. The leading picture shows the Blue Funnel Line owned 'Achilles' from the early 1900's that was torpedoed and sunk off Ushant; this type of watch was used in this period. The movement is marked with various U.S.A. Patents from June 1907 and a serial number 29736329.I have taken the watch to my horologist, who has indicated this is a Waltham movement or similar, but cannot identify it. The watch does not run, as it needs a new hairspring; I'm hoping an American bidder can identify the movement and get the watch going again as I can't in sleepy old Poole. [although at one time the tall ships went from Poole to Nova Scotia]. Blue Funnel Lines ran to the Orient,Australia and North America in the early 1900's.None of the Museums in Liverpool have an example of an Officers watch in their collection. I can't get this watch fixed,it is very rare, whoever wins it will have a real prize; I'd like to keep it,but I'd rather someone get read more
