Extremely Rare French Bisque Portrait Doll by Albe

21 (53 cm.) Bisque socket head with unusual modeling having highly defined forehead and cheek temples, angular jaw line, small closed mouth with pronounced upper pouty lip, small brown glass eyes, finely painted facial features. brunette human hair wig, unique composition body designed for this doll only with elongated torso and limbs, wide hips, bisque lower arms and hands. Condition: very faint hairline on back upper head, upper/lower left arm is bisque replacement, otherwise excellent. Marks: A. Marque (script) 2 (red ink number). Comments: Albert Marque, the noted French sculptor, modeled the doll in 1914, and only 100 models of the doll are believed to exist. The doll was presented exclusively at the prestige Paris couturier store of Margaine-Lacroix. This doll, #2 from the series of 100, has outstanding quality of sculpting and beautiful complexion and painted features.
