This is a fragment of the extremely rare MOKOIA meteorite from New Zealand. This meteorite fell on November 26, 1908, at 12:30 pm in Taranaki, North Island . Two stones were recovered after a fireball. The total amount of material recovered was only 4.54 kilograms. Mokoia is an extremely rare CV3.2 oxidized, Bali-type carbonaceous chondrite. I have never before seen this material avaialable to the collector community. I got a small amount of material ~1 gram, from a man in the UK who exchanged it out of the Darby university in Darbyshire UK. It includes a copy of the old card that was with the material, a confirmation letter dating 14/8/1962 from the New Zealand Geological Survey donating the meteorite specimens to the UK university. This piece weighs 0.1192 gram. It is a fresh fragment. It is over 5 mm long by 5 mm wide. This is a small specimen, but for this locality, it may be about all you ever see for sale, so if you collect witnessed falls, carbonaceous chondrites, or extremely rare meteorites from New Zealand, this one fits the bill! I fully expect the auction to bring a price in the several thousand $$$ per gram range for this specimen. I am a meteorite dealer and fully gaurantee the authenticity of every meteorite and tektite specimen I sell. Be sure to see me in the March 1999 issue of the Smithsonian Magazine, I am
