General description This is an interesting European petzval, coming with both the original flange and mounted on to a perfectly usable wooden lens board. The apertures are marked '1-5' and the iris opens and closes extremely smoothly Description of the image seen on the ground glass When tested at infinity, and wide open, sharp in the middle of the image and then a little softer. At 'portrait length' a very decent degree of softness and out of focus effects could be seen. A fairly ideal lens for portraits on formats such as 4 x 5 or smallerFocal length This is calculated by focusing at infinity and then measuring from a point halfway between the lens elements to the rear focal plane , in this case the focal length is approx 6" Format covered Up to 4 x5 but with the possibility of a little vignetting at that format Aperture f3.1, wide open The barrel Nicely discoloured, completely original and there are no dings to either end The glass Overall bright and clear and with some slight signs of past cleaning but there is nothing here which will have any effect on the taken images The measurements The front end has a width of 60mm, the overall length is approx 94mm and the flange has respective inner and outer widths of 56 and 78mm.
