SUBSTANCIAL AUTHENTIC QUALITY ART NOUVEAU OBVERSE PAINTED
LARGE TABLE LAMP BY PITTSBURGH ca. 1900! DESCRIPTION: I am very very excited to be offering such a superior authentic period quality, substantial, and large hand painted obverse 2 bulb table lamp! This lamp has everything going for it, made by the Pittsburgh light Company with both the shade and base are exceptional in their own right! Starting with the shade that measures about 8 ½" tall and a very nice diameter of 16 ½"! This is a large table lamp with a total height of about 23 inches and weighs approximately 15 pounds! The shade has a beautiful brass and green colored patina over base metal that is in a gorgeous Art Nouveau design. The shade's ribs give an overlay appearance of the fantastic hand painted scenic décor in 6 sections. However, the glass shade is one huge piece. The shade's continuous panoramic obverse scenic image is of beautiful trees, bushes, rocks, and a mountain range in the background. The wonderful forest scene is made up of beautiful earth tone colors of rust, shades of greens, grays, browns, as well as black, and even pink of a beginning sun set. The overlay is elaborately designed in an Art Nouveau design of an onion like plant with winding roots around the shade's rim while the plant has stylized leaves that climb all the way to the top rim which appears to me to be a stylized sun with rays of light. Another incredible asset to this lamp is that the original sticker is still on the inside of the glass shade. It reads "PLB & G Co.", underneath that is the number, "1490 1/2", and then "25" on the last line, very rare to have the original label, as you know. Besides being a gorgeous desk or table scenic lamp the condition is near mint. T is no patina loss of the green and gold patina on the shade's metal décor. The glass shade is so close to mint with only two very minor nicks on the top edge rim which is hidden by the cap so is not visible. Being painted in the obverse, the exterior shade has darkened from decades collecting dirt and being cleaned as well as natural aging of the painting. Just like a canvas or painting on board. I cleaned it as best I could, but I wasn't able to get all the darkening off, none of which hurts the appeal or desirability of this exceptional lamp as you can tell in the pictures. The base is just as outstanding as the shade. It is made of a gold and green patina finished metal of stylized floral and fauna décor. The foot measures 7 ¾" across. The tall base stands a proud 23" tall that has the 2 light sockets. Another big benefit of this Pittsburgh lamp is that the two sockets and the wiring have been completely replaced for your safety. So all parts, except the wiring and sockets are original and authentic to this lamp! The condition is also just short of mint with just a tiny bit of discoloration and patina loss. No more than 1%! That is amazing consider this wonderful lamp's age. This breathtaking designed and superior lamp will work with any home or office decoration and will surely demand attraction due to its beauty and presents, especially lighted. It will go with Victorian to modern décor and everything in between, especially the Art Nouveau or Arts and Crafts decor. This marvelous lamp belongs to someone that is a lover of antique high end, high quality, museum quality lamp, or need such a superior and large table lamp of unlimited beauty, this lamp is a must have. Such quality and high valued lamps don't come up all that often and nearly as you can get to mint condition, so don't hesitate to bid or you may miss out on one of the very prettiest lamps you can buy.
