They were most likely mourning earrings. The design is awesome, small sections of onyx are set into bezels to form a gorgeous shape. The onyx has flat tops with beveled edges. The bottom pieces are heart shaped with tiny beads between them. The center has a tiny gold flower with a seed pearl center. The bottom section hangs off the triangles with a small tube so that t is movement. The pierced earwires have a single bead. They are very well made and in excellent condition, no major damage or wear. The entire length is 1&5/8" from the top of the earwire by 5/8". They look incredible on, delicate and interesting. Beautiful and unique Victorian earrings and a superb addition to any collection. Please check other bejewelled auctions for more great items.
