Appears French in design with garlands and Neoclassical designs and form. We have provided 8 different photo angles with the ENLARGE feature for greater viewing detail. We examined this compote very closely and could not find any makers hallmark, so it is being offered as maker unknown. Do you know who created this beautiful compote? if you do know, please email us and we will be happy to add the information to the auction. Compote stands an impressive and elegant 13 1/2" tall at the top of the figural woman. The bowl appears to be early opaque glass with an elaborate flared form, we could find no mold lines. The glass bowl measures a large 10 1/4" in diameter x approx. 3-4" deep, t are NO CHIPS or damage. The metal base features two ornate claw feet with 2 very French ornate feet. T are two shell shaped bowls 3 1/4" x 3 3/8" x 2" deep at the base. A North Wind 'looking' character ? (he is not blowing wind) appears on the interior of both bowls on the stem, please view the photos. The metal is casted and very heavy with relief designs, a magnet does not stick, so it is not iron or steel. The metal feels too heavy to be early pot metal, perhaps bronze, we are not certain. Surface is original, untouched, and very aged. Patina is a gold gilt that exhibits decades of age and has mellowed to a darker color from wear, also shown. We took this compote apart looking for a hallmark, the washer w the stem and the glass bowl meet was dried out and partly gone. For the saftey of the glass we replaced the old biodegraded washer with a new one, this is only mentioned for 100% accuracy and does effect the value in any way. T are very minor fleabites, very tiny chips on the interior under the washer that cannot be seen unless the piece is taken apart. We are offering this beautiful compote with a very low reserve. Victorian era compotes are very highly collected and sought after. They have great aesthetic appeal and are also very practical, their decorating possibilities are endless. This is a beautiful and very unusual antique compote, don't let it pass you by. *PLEASE ASK ALL QUESTIONS *PRIOR* TO BIDDING* *PLEASE BE SURE TO VIEW OUR OTHER AUCTIONS* DOMESTIC U.S. SHIPPING: We ship on Tuesday's & Thursday's of each week.
