You are bidding on this beautiful handmade oil lamp. La lampe Berbère is the pride of Mogador Inc., located in Montreal. They specialize in designing these small coloured liquid paraffin lamps which are unique throughout the world. Hand made in Morocco, La lampe Berbère is a useful art object which is Moroccan inspired with a unique Quebec design. Mogador uses a clear recycled glass, which is imported from Europe, to make La lampe Berbère. Each lamp is carefully covered with this mixture called "Maillechort" which is what gives them their distinct appearance. Designed to give people the impression of the "Thousand and One Nights", La lampe Berbère is prized for the many uses you can make of it. It goes beyond the need for refinement. It is an art object which is bought as much for the atmosp it creates as for the pleasure of collecting it. Mogador, encouraged by the outstanding success of its renowned oil lamps and in response to their customers needs, is today hard at work developping other usable art objects along the same line of the collection of La lampe Berbère. What materials are used in making La Lampe Berbère? The lamps are made from clear glass and covered with aa alloid called "maillechort". This mixture was invented at the beginning of the 20th century to imitate silver without the drawbacks of silver. Do the lamps give off a perfumed odour? No, they are only designed to light up a room and create an atmosp What colours are available? All the lamps are made of clear glass. The colour comes from the liquid paraffin which is the fuel used. Available colours are blue, green, burgundy, amber, yellow and mauve. A clear parrafin is also sold. Does the combustion produce smoke? No. The superior grade paraffin used is 99% consumed and tfore gives off no odour or smoke.Does the wick have to be replaced? The wick Mogador uses is a permanent wick made from fibreglass. It does not burn but we do however recommend that you trim it slightly after several hours of use in order to eliminate carbon build-up. A wick will usually last up to 4 years and if need be, we are selling replacement wicks. For how long can a lamp burn? This depends on the size of the reservoir. The time may vary from 8 to 24 hours. What country is the lamp made in? All products are designed in Canada. The glass comes from Europe; the "maillechort" mixture is applied to the bottles in our workshop in Morocco. The assembly of the bottles is completed in Laval Quebec, Canada. Please choose any lamp from the display. I also combine shipping for multiple orders.
