It is my pleasure to offer for your consideration a fabulous c1850 Chinese carved ivory calling card case signed by the maker. This outstanding case was produced in Canton, China during the height of the China Trade era around c1850 for export to the West. I have seen no nicer ivory card case carved of the cross theme than this particular one. Even after having literally 100s of fine ivory cases. I really don't know w to start on this one other than hopefully the photos do it justice. The carving is very fine and in deep relief having a cross on both sides saturated inside each cross with many well done figures amoungst garden and pavillion scenes as well as many other architectual points of interest. What surrounds the cross is amazing, having a 'Wan Fret' design to the background with a variety of expertly carved flowers, leaves and stems. I have really seen no better with such minute detail in delicate forms. T is wonderful strong graining and cross hatching that can be seen on every flat surface including the inner toungue w the artist signed this prized work. Condition is perfect with only a very faint tight age line separation on one side of the lid which appears like it was stabalized by a tiny trace of glue.
