is an absolutely stunning vintage 8-day animated musical cuckoo clock. The large case is flawless, and features magnificently carved scenes. The outer perimeter of the case has beautiful three-dimensional trees and leaves. On the stage below the dial are 2 carved wolves howling. One of the wolves has 2 holes in the top of its head that usually hold antlers in deer heads. I don't know why this is so, since wolves don't have antlers since I last looked. These holes aren't noticeable, and can easily be filled, if desired. The top splat is very large, and features a beautifully carved bird with spread wings, surrounded by leaf patterns. The stage above the dial has a set of 4 dancers that dance to the music box. This case is rather large, measuring 19" high X 15" wide at the top. Brass German movement runs for 8 days on a single winding. These 8-day cuckoo clocks are somewhat rare. Most are 30-hour clocks. It is chain-driven, powered by 3 large pinecone weights, each one weighing 2 3/4 ponds. At each half-hour, the bird comes out from behind the top door and cuckoos once. At the top of each hour, he counts out the number of hours. With each cuckoo sound, a rear-mounted coil gong is also struck. After sounding off, the bird returns behind his door, and the music box is activated. T are 2 different short songs played, one on the half-hour, and one on the hour. While the music plays, the dancers twirl around as the stage they're on rotates. This clock runs well, keeping accurate time, all functions work as they should. A truly fabulous 8-day animated musical clock that would make a terrific addition to any home or collection. Looks and runs great. I would imagine that a clock like this would retail for many hundreds of dollars, and this one is as-new. Comes complete with the 3 weights and original matching pendulum, ready to go. I have been informed by an eBayer that they are indeed deer, amale and a female. So the holes in the head of one are for antlers,which are missing. Sorry for the error.
