WELCOME TO MY VIOLETS AUCTION. Springtime is around the corner and soon the garden will be filled with those wonderful fat leaves of the Viola plant, popping up out of the ground. Soon to follow will be those dainty stems with their nodding heads of Violets. My auction today is going to show Violets and Pansies - with another purple or two thrown in. ! I will be listing very fine and very beautiful hand painted Limoges, Bavaria or Austrian porcelain that are all painted with one of the gardener's favorite flowers - the hardy and prolific Viola. This is a superbly painted T&V Limoges Creamer & Sugar set that is signed and painted by Pickard artist Howard Reury. This was painted when Reury worked for Pitkin & Brooks and has that studio's early stamp. Reury painted gorgeous double Violets in perfect shades of Purple, Lavender and soft White all around both pieces with liberal painting of leaves an foliage and background color. The borders, handles and feet of this handsome mold are painted in the thick Gold used by these studios that is unparalleled in luster and beauty. T is some gold rubbing on the high points. This is a wonderful and very beautiful set painted by an expert artist on a fabulous mold. The Creamer stands 3 5/8" tall at the handle and 5 3/4" long including the handle. The Open Sugar stands 2 5/8" tall and 5 3/8" from handle to handle. The set is in very good condition with no chips or hairlines. At the very base of the Creamer handle - way at the bottom, looks to be a repair that was touched over in Gold. It is very small, very unobtrusive and my camera (or I!) couldn't pick it up. Both pieces feel solid as a rock. Both pieces are signed by Reury and stamped with Tressemann & Vogt Mark 8. They are also stamped with Pitkin & Brooks mark 2, 1903-1910.
