This cane has a wonderfully turned ivory knob inlaid with tortoise shell, abalone shell, baleen and mother of pearl shell. It is 2.5” high with several ring turnings stepping down to a 1.25” rosewood collar inlaid with abalone and mother of pearl. Below this is a .25” wide coin silver band with beautiful circular floral pattern. This band appears to be a finger ring used as a collar mount. The tapered solid whale bone shaft has 2 diamond shaped tortoise shell eyelets and a 2.25” brass and iron ferrule. The inlay is in geometric designs and quite pleasing. One baleen, and one abalone dot is missing, and there is a short, tight crack in the ivory knob. Great, pleasing patina. Truly a fine example of circa 1840s whaler`s art. Total length 33”.
