I had the stone tested today...had hoped it was a sapphire. It was a topaz. From the cut of the stone you can see it is from the late 1800s to early 1900s. Great rose color in a solid 14k gold setting. The stone measures just over 7mm, about a 1 1/2 carat gem. The mounting weighs 2.5 grams, about 72 dollars of just gold. A comparable ring today would be about 600 dollars. The band is about 2mm...dainty but not thin. Still plenty of wear all around. The gem is a beauty...brilliant and faint yellow....looks like a fancy light yellow diamond. Guaranteed to be a gemstone and not glass..
