Shelton, Robert & Gahr, David : The Face of Folk Music NY, Citadel 1968. Stated 1st Edit. No DJ. large 8vo. [ 9" x 12"] in pale yellow and charcoal black boards. 372 pgs. Gorgeous photos by David Gahr on every page. This important and rare book documents a mid-Twentieth century phenomenon usually referred to as the 1960's "Folk Revival". Those who lived through this transitional period will remember it well and the people whose photos by the remarkable David Gahr appear in this volume. During this period as a young Bod Dylan, Joan Baez and many groups like Peter,Paul & Mary burst onto the scene ; many old Delta Bluesmen like Bukka White, Mance Lipscomb and Skip James , were still alive and now in demand. Also from an earlier 'Folk Revival' like Woody Guthrie [although he was ill during this period], Pete Seeger, 'Ramblin' Jack Elliott, The Weavers and others were still around. Many less remembered groups and single acts like the Blues Project, the Jim Kweskin Jug-Band, The Fugs, Dave Van Ronk , Phil Ochs, bluegrass veterans, and old-time country musicians are all T's literally no one from the era whose photo isn't The rarity and quality of these photos make this a valuable book. A must have for the modern 'Folkie' or the one who fondly remembers this time. This is a nice , if not perfect book. The main flaw beside lack of a dust jacket is that the back cover has some soil splotches on it, not too bad [see photo]. O/W clean, tight, no wear, VG . In the other photos are - Delta Bluesman ; 'Skip' James, Mimi Farina [ sister of Joan Baez], and The Fugs [with Ed Sanders !]. $4.00 Dom. S/H
