Presented at Auction is this Superb Commemorative FAIRBAIRN-SYKES 1 st MODEL "S" GUARD COMMANDO DAGGER. This knife was manufactured for the British Royal Marines in 1991 to commemorate the inception of the Fairbairn-Sykes Commando Dagger in 1941 during the early days of WWII. This serial numbered knife is one of only 500 pieces made for this purpose and it is serial number 16 of the run. True to the original design, this knife has a 3/16" thick forged blade that is hand ground with a square ricasso and thick diamond cross section. The ricasso is marked "R.M. 016" on the mark side for Royal Marines and "1941-1991" on the pile side. The guard and handle are also both marked "016" and the markings are hand struck. The nickel plated brass handle is knurled with double hatched knurling as were the originals and has a small doughnut shaped pommel nut that is peened in place. The thick nickel plated guard has a slight "S" shape like the original first models. The blade is a work of art and has the beautiful straight sided needle taper that was evident in the earliest hand ground examples of the 1 st model F-S daggers but rapidly changed to a more rounded shape on later model knives. The knife is 12 inches long overall with a7 3/16" carbon steel polished blade and is in mint condition. The sheath is also true to the original 1 st model sheath
