This means they have not been mass produced in sweat shops or generically made by machine. Our range of Large ethnic masks are all perfectly crafted to be wall hanging. Our range of Ethnic and African influenced masks are made by a family run company based in Bali, Indonesia. We handpicked these guys as the right company to create our masks because of their sensational product quality and attention to detail. The family consists of 7 members who all have different skills jobs within the mask creating business. One of these members is Rajeg, who is featured on the artist information tab. These wooden masks have been made from a tropical wood known as Albesia. This is our wood of choice for many products owing to its very fast growing nature. It can reach maturity after only 5 years thus its very easy for us to replant and replace the wood used. Approximate sizes as follows Large: H: 40cm x 15cm Medium: H: 29cm x 11cm Small: H: 19cm x 8cm About The Artist Rajeg My name is Rajag and I along with my other family members have been associated with making handicrafts for Siiren for the past four years. We run a family business crafting ethnic and African masks. The wooden African masks we make are prepared from a local wood called Albesia. We were advised by the Siiren people to try and use this wood for mask making due to the fact this wood comes from a fast growing tree. Its cutting down will not have detrimental environmental effects as the tree will re grow fully in five years, making it sustainable to use for the craft we make a lively hood from. Different members in my family are assigned different jobs in mask making, from crafting to painting. My job is to research new designs and train the staff on the best methods to make them. You might not know , but all of these masks are 100% painted by our hands. We use small syringes of colour to create the delicate colours. Working with Siiren is a great experience for all of us and we feel proud of the fact that we work a company that follows fair trade standards and considers sustainability of natural resources. long may it continue ! About Siiren Siiren is a verified fair trade importer of exotic handicrafts. Owners and Directors, Daniel and Natasha Cummings manage this family owned business with the help of a large dedicated team of staff members. Siiren is based in the somewhat sleepy town of Newton Abbot, Devon where we have a total of three warehouses where you can come over and see the products for yourself and get a real feel for what we do. The company was established only 7 years ago and it took a year of research and planning to conceive this unique brand.
