Offered at auction: I believe the year to be 1907 but not quite sure. This engine never had a water pump and cooling tank; it may have been ordered that way. My father bought it in 1967; in 1997 I bought the farm house and out buildings where it came from. The shed it was kept in is still standing and the line shaft it drove is still there. I thought I just had to have it since it was delivered to my house via horse drawn wagon over 100 years ago. However, if I was to place it where it had resided for the first 50+ years of its life nobody would ever see it, so I’ve kept in my garage. I don’t take it to shows and I’ve grown tired of walking around it. I suppose it’s time to sell. I’ll start the description at the top. The muffler has some rust holes in the thin steel tube, because it had been removed and laid on the floor of the shed when they plumbed the exhaust outside in 1907. I found it in 1997 while cleaning out the buildings. The outside of the water jacket around the cylinder has a hairline crack about 3 inches long, visible in the pictures. The one time we did show it was while my father was alive, we worked a little silicone sealant into the crack and it didn’t leak; it is barely visible but it is there. Because it isn’t a pressurized system, it doesn’t seem to be an issue. I put a weak spring on the governor and it will roll over a dozen times between firing. (you can count the revolutions) I still have the original governor springs. I also have a copy of an owners manual that goes with it. My Father had a custom fuel tank made, because the original had rusted away. It can’t be seen because it is under the crankcase. We also replaced the wooden runners with treated 4x4s and reworked the ends to look like the original equipment. I put fresh fuel in the tank a few days ago, hooked up a battery and it popped right off. Truly impressive, considering my weed eater and lawnmower seem to need a complete overhaul every spring! Its’ simplicity is the beauty of the thing. Oh, the brass ball on the carburetor is not original equipment. It was placed there to plug the hole and seems to work well.
