Antique French Shelf Clock Case Shown in the photos is an antique French Shelf Clock with replaced movement. The Telechron used is the right diameter except itâe(tm)s just a dial with a quartz movement fit up behind. It counts the seconds and keeps time but I see no way to Set the time. Whoever fit up the movement proved that it could be done but wasted a lot of effort. To set the clock the movement has to be pulled out from the front, the back removed and the hands set. That, or the bezel has to be unscrewed and the clock set by moving the hands to the correct time. The good news is that the Telechron movement and bezel can be removed and a standard size French movement of the right diameter fit right in to make up a beautiful, functional antique French shelf or mantel clock. The case is solid bronze or brass and was at one time fully gilded (traces remain. The back door is original and closes. The hand painted panel at the front appears to be fired on some kind of ceramic material and is in very good shape as shown. I estimate the case was manufactured in the last quarter of the 19 th century. It measures 15 Inches tall, by 4-1/2 front to back by 8 Inches across the feet. It weighs 7 pounds and will probably ship out at between 9 and 10 pounds properly packed. The case is being sold as is which is as pictured and described: A late 19 th century case for a French shelf or mantel clock, currently with a replacement If anything important has been overlooked, you have anything to add, or more photos are desired please do not hesitate to make contact.
