A full sized antique oil lamp, about 17 1/2" tall to top of glass chimney. Lamp is a very early hand-blown-into-mold lamp that has since taken on a beautiful deep purple / amethyst / lavender color from exposure to the sun. Condition : Lamp is in pristine sparkling clean condition. NO cracks, chips, dings, damage, etc., about perfect condition! Age : A very early hand blown, two-part mold lamp, ca. late 1800's . Shipping & Insurance : Buyer pays $12.46 S/H which includes mandatory insurance ~ more if international ~ We ship every Wednesday. So if you pay with PayPal by Tuesday evening, we will ship your item Wednesday. Payments received later than that will have to wait until the following Wednesday to ship, though we can possibly make exceptions. Regardless, your prompt payment will assure a very quick turn-around time. A GREAT looking antique oil lamp. The chimney and the burner have been replaced, but all the rest (including the brass collar) is antique original. As mentioned, this lamp is a beautiful sun-colored-purple color. The natural color of glass back in the 1800's was aqua, but aqua glass was not a desirable color for many household wares. It was discovered that by adding pulverized manganese (a mineral) to the hot glass, it would turn the glass clear. But, years later, once the glass had been blown into a vessel, the manganese would oxidize when it was exposed to the ultra violet rays of the sun, and take on a rich lavender color. In 1914 with the start of WWI the U.S. could no longer get manganese, so it was no longer used. With few exceptions, only clear-glass vessels made before 1914 will take on this sun-colored-amethyst color. So the purple color not only adds to the eye appeal, but also helps authenticate the age of items, as is the case Not many antique lamps are as nice as this one in condition, style, and color, check it out! But beyond this, we have no way of tracking an uninsured item through the US Postal Service once it has been shipped, so you will have to take it up with your Post Office. We will not refund uninsured shipments nor will we engage in endless email correspondence on the matter. We package very carefully and always use the USPS for delivery. International Shipping: We have enjoyed shipping antique bottles all over the world and are happy to offer our bottles to international buyers. We will only put the actual sale price as the declared value on the custom forms. Our auctions state that shipping is âe~more if internationalâe(tm),please feel free to contact us before buying, for an international shipping estimate. We will require insurance on international purchases over $100 which means the package must be shipped Global Priority at a higher shipping cost.
