FANTASTIC ANTIQUE KARAGASHLI RUG _ DATED
Northeastern Caucasus Kuba Region, dated 1328 or 1909, this superb tribal piece offers a robust rendition of the beloved Karagahdli design, featuring endearing gazelle, blossom and geometric motifs. collectors of original Caucazian rugs will be drawn to its inspiring palette of deeply saturated dyes, great clarity of design. The exact size is: 2'-9" x 5' (88 x 152 cm) . This superbly designed weaving has wonderfully rich and vibrant 100% vegetable-derived, dyes with especially yellow. It has evenly low allover pile codition. This lovely antique carpet came to me with 1 inche of the top and bottom borders in very ragged condition and I elected to have these area artistically rewoven by a professional restorer in Tehran, Iran using antique recycled wool from unraveled 100 or more year old kilims and jajims to perfectly match the original color hues. This top quality and quite pricey restoration is not discernible from front (see bottom right close up photo of the carpet's backside weave stucture). The carpet is now, once again, aesthetically pleasing to the eye and collection ready. It has been professionally cleaned and the selvages are replaced and strong and the ends sewn back secure to prevent loss.
