We are very pleased to offer a very nice set of 5 very old hand carved wooden boxes. The exact age and origin of these boxes is unknown, but they appear to be very old and are probably from either China, Thailand or India. They are very finely crafted of aromatic camphorwood. The designs are a high relief depiction of pagodas, elephants and trees on the tops and fronts. The sides and backs depict some type of sailing ships. The corners are dovetailed and the hinges and clasps are antique brass that also has incised designs. The dimensions of the boxes are as follows: 14" wide by 8 3/4" deep by 8" high; 12" w by 7 1/2" d by 6 3/4" h; 10" w by 6" d by 6" h; 8" w by 4 1/2" d by 4 1/2" h; 6" w by 31/2" d by 3 1/2" h. The overall condition is very good with the following exceptions: for the 14" box -the clasp is partially broken, t is a small amount of warping in the lid and a very small scratch on one side. For the 12" box - the clasp is broken, t is a small amount of warping in the lid and a very small scratch on one side. For the 10" box t are very small nicks on the left side. For the 8" box - the inside hinge to keep the lid open is missing. For the 6" box - the left front foot is half missing.
