Words Can't Describe this offering!! The Best Pantry Boxes we have had in the last 20 Years!! Description: Fantastic Red Pantry Box with Wire Bale Handle. This is one of three that just came out of an estate in Maine, although, based on the signature on one of the boxes, were probably made in New Hampshire. They are fresh to the market and have been in that collection for over 40 years. The box measures 12 inches in diameter by 7 inches high and has a wall thickness of 1/4 inch !!! That is very thick for a pantry box. The bale handle is is made of a heavy rod with a turned wooden handle and adds another 5.5 inches in height when in the "Up" position. Now for the important stuff. This box and it's Sister's have the best form and surface we have seen in many years. The paint is so "Right" that I am having a hard time conveying how good it is. The patina and wear are completely accurate and the surface is a really strong, dry red. The oxidation of the paint has created a very warm red. As it relates to the construction, I have been told that the thick walls are Chestnut. This came from a collector that seems to have good experience in this area. I am not an expert in the materials, but also understand that it could have been oak. Either way, this is not your ordinary Pantry Box. The condition is exactly as you see it in the pictures. At some time in its history, two chips came off the top w it was nailed to the rim. You can see by the patina in those two areas, that the loss occurred a Very, very long time ago. The reserve on these boxes are reasonable and believe me, they will not last if we put them in the shop!!! Please bid wisely.
