Hi all, it's been cool selling model kits on EBay , but now I want to branch out and test the waters to see if t's a market for my true passion -- custom built and faux bronzed model kits. Why faux bronze? I've always considered these model kits little works of art, and for me, the "bronzing" makes them look really classy, and it really brings out all the awesome detail of the sculpt.
So up for auction is my first offering: Jabba's pet Rancor from Return of the Jedi. The statue is built from the awesome AMT/ERTL "collector's edition" vinyl kit from the late 90's, and stands about 12" tall. It's been weighted down with plaster, so it feels nice and heavy, and it stands just fine on it's own two feet. You might notice that the Gamorrean is MUCH closer to the Rancor's mouth than the original kit had him -- thought that gave it the little extra sense of "Oh, CRAP!" for the Gamorrean. I didn't include the "chain" that came in the original kit because I thought it looked out of scale. The faux bronze paint I used has actual bronze in it, so t's a real nice luster to the finished piece. I took great care to apply the "antiquing" solution to make the details pop, but not be too contrasty. It's finished with a semi gloss UV resistant sealer to protect and enhance the details. I'm not a "pro" by any means, but I have been building models most of my life and I love the hobby, so you can rest assured great attention and care was put into the building of this awesome piece. The seams are pretty well hidden in all the wrinkles of the Rancor. The only thing I missed and didn't notice until after the plaster went in is that one of the feet isn't perfectly flat to the ground, but like I said earlier, it stands fine. Since this is my first offering, I will start the bidding off at a really low price. If you win the piece and aren't completely satisfied, I will accept returns within 7 days.
