Faux Ivory Carved Asian Ship People Dragon Faux Ivory Carved Asian Ship People Dragon Measures: 5" tall to top of the back rim of the ship & 10" tall to top of the mast x 3" 14". Small paper label on bottom marked: Made in Taiwan. This is a very interesting Asian ship sculpture. Unsure what it is made of, appears to be a faux ivory or resin. I can see some color difference in the material & some yellowing. Everywhere you look you see something happening...there are people all over the ship & each person is busy doing one thing or another. Junks were developed during the Han Dynasty (206 BC–220 AD) and were used as sea-going vessels as early as the 2nd century AD. They evolved in the later dynasties, and were used throughout Asia for extensive ocean voyages. They were found, and in lesser numbers are still found, throughout South-East Asia and India , but primarily in China , perhaps most famously in Hong Kong . Found more broadly today is a growing number of modern recreational junk-rigged sailboats. The 4 small pieces on the back pull out, I think these are some type of sail , they are curled over & I can not tell if the curl is normal or caused by heat & age ( see photos read more
