You are bidding an original, signed, guaranteed authentic charcoal/graphite illustration with gouache or watercolor highlights and pen & ink detailing by Frederick Coffay (F.C.) Yohn. The back of the board has handwritten notes that say “Inland Treasure.” 1st Installment. Page 21. “Guess it had better be me that does the learning?, he jerked out. It was me that done that.” This illustration was created for a December 1923 issue of The American Boy magazine, for a story called “Inland Treasure” by Elmer C. Adams. NOTE THAT WE HAVE TWO OTHER ORIGINAL ILLUSTRATIONS BY FC YOHN FROM THIS SERIES OF STORIES CURRENTLY LISTED SEPARATELY ON EBAY. The man with the hat and the boy in front of the Clark Merchandise shop are characters in all three illustrations in the Inland Treasure series.The drawing is done on a thick Whatman Drawing Board, which has some charcoal smearing throughout, but should clean up with a gum eraser. There's a crease in the bottom left corner of board, but it's well outside the ‘live area.’ There are two handwritten pencil notes on the left side indicating “vignette close,” which might appear depending upon the cropping by a mat. They probably would erase. The painting has a strong signature for F C Yohn. The main illustration is very crisp with lots of detail.
