This auction is for: Rare VolumeBound NewspapersSan Francisco ChronicleFebruary 1913 This great oversize volume begins Saturday the 1stand ends on Friday the 28th, February 1917. It has handsome black cloth boards w/gilt titles to spine,and comes from the old Oakland Free Library.The SF Chronicle is always an exciting paper andcovers events locally, nationally, & worldwide w/great finesse.Sunday sections in this era use color ink and excellent graphicsin their opening segments ~ imaginative & fun to look at.Jim Thorpe, whose just returned from the Olympics and undue scandalhas decided to sign with the New York Giants. He gets more than a fewmentions within these papers. Also, the Mexican Revolution is raging and the short presidency of Francisco Madero comes to a draw this monthas he's ousted from office and then murdered just days later.You can extract alot of what's going on from just lookingat the pictures we've taken, but other notable highlights to meinclude: Sarah Bernhardt performing at the Orpheum, Opium Smuggling(it's San Francisco after all), the splashes of Billiards & Boxing news,and the automotive sections are ALWAYS great.Plus ~ It's Valentines Season.The only paper I found to be missingwas from Wednesday the 12th. The text blockstitching was cut in the process which left the followingThursday & Friday papers sticking out somewhat.So, the result is that those two papers have some chippingon the outer vertical margin. The rest is pretty soundand the covers and spine are exceptionally clean.
