Super Rare Vintage 59’ Fender Musicmaster-Sherwood Green!! Up for auction is a beautiful vintage 1959 Musicmaster in custom Sherwood Green! This is one of the most sought-after colors in the late 50’s early 60s. I have searched high and low on the internet and have yet to find or hear of a Musicmaster in Sherwood Green. The paint has many years left on it(No Peeling). It looks very vintage and has tons of character so it is not a recent refinish. The age of the paint doesn’t show well in the pics but it has lots of vintage effect. The paint job was very well done and has lasted the years. The clear coat is smooth but has sweet visual flares and age lines. This makes me believe that it was either the original paint job or sent back to Fender in 59’ or early 60s’ for a custom paint job. This guitar is almost 100% original. All the serial numbers match up to 1959. The only unoriginal parts as far as I know is the tuners and possible refret( they are very good for the age). The tuners are Musicmasters, but 64’-68’. The neck serial number “38109” corresponds with mid-1959 which would explain why there is not a date on the end of the neck. Which is also very Rare! See Below. This was sent to me from David Brass of Fretted Americana Inc. “In early 1959: Due to a complaint by a Fender customer as to an obscenity written on the neck butt, no markings were used for the first part of 1959. I've seen dates of 6-59, so they started using them again at least by mid-year. From the start in 1950, Fender used a one piece maple neck with a walnut "skunk" stripe down the back (except on early Esquires with no truss rod), where the truss rod was installed. This was the standard neck on all models until 1958 (when the Jazzmaster was introduced with a rosewood fingerboard; the rest of the Fender models changed to rosewood fingerboards in mid-1959).” I have played this guitar thru my 69 Fender Bassman . Everything works great! Tone, Tone, Tone! I can’t believe the sound of this original Single Coil. Volume and Tone still work great. Frets are in good shape. Neck is straight and in tune all the way up. The Reserve is low so don’t be afraid to bid on this Sherwood Green, One of a Kind Collectors item! Ps. I have had lots of questions and interest in the "Musicmaster"! I wanted to keep everyone in the loop. 1. I don't have a "Buy it Now" price. I'm going to let the auction run it's course. 2. The "Musicmaster" will be professionally packed at a local guitar shop and shipped UPS. 3. Someone has brought up the point that the paint is probably not original because at the factory the hold the bodys with paint sticks at the neck and don't bother to paint over the bare spot left by the holding piece. This body is completely painted. I believe if it is not original it was sent back to Fender for a custom job. I have no documentation of this but the color matched the era for Sherwood green late 50's early 60's and looks like it has been on there since then. Like I said above the paint is not perfect, but it looks great for being used and played for 50 years. Sherwood green is a very expensive color and very hard to find. I took a closer look and the pots read 250k aud which i think means pole stack, 52nd week of 1961 but I could be wrong.
