From our personal collection, we are pleased to offer this No Reserve auction for a beautiful, one of a kind, Fenton HP Burmese Vase that was designed and hand painted by Marilyn Wagner, world renowned artist and designer of art-on-art glass. Since her retirement from Fenton several years ago, Ms. Wagner's paintings on Fenton Art Glass, and especially those featuring horses on Burmese, have become highly sought after and coveted by discriminating collectors worldwide. This is an older Wagner on Fenton piece that we've owned for several years. This vase is creatively designed, artfully executed, and loaded with details. L inked scenes continue contiguously around the circumference of this unique vase . With No Reserve your opening bid can win! This striking, hand painted Burmese vase measures about 9 inches tall, 5-1/2 inches wide, and is topped with a lovely, even crimp with beautiful blush, that measures just over 5-1/2 inches across. The desirable traits of Fenton's Burmese glass, including its varying degrees of blush which contrast beautifully against the pale yellow-gold base color of Fenton's original Burmese, result from the addition of pure gold to the glass mix, and the skill of Fenton's glassworkers. These coveted affects are pleasingly evident on this lovely, one of a kind, hand painted Fenton Burmese vase. An especially luscious blush adds to this vase's significantly sized crimp, and also appears on the vase's neck and body. Ms. Wagner's painting, of an enticing slice of a simpler life and time, is especially well painted, with excellent perspective, and is very detailed. This beautifully executed design depicts a man driving his horse drawn wagon to the mail box, with his faithful dog sitting beside him, as part of a threaded design which continues around the circumference of the vase. Many other details, including a mailbox with the Wagner name on it and the red flag up, a distant barn with a winding country drive leading to it, an adorable Bluebird perched on a fence post, gently rolling fields, fences and a variety of beautiful trees are among the details and images that adorn all sides of this vase. Lovely clusters of thistles are painted on the neck of this charming, one of a kind piece. This superbly painted design was further accented by Marilyn Wagner's tasteful use of sparkling frit, made of tiny, shimmering pieces of cut glass, which was artfully applied with a light hand. The photos taken indoors caused the camera's flash to catch and highlight the frit excessively, making it appear much more prevalent than it actually is. The bottom photo was taken indoors and illustrates this point well, since the affects of the applied frit is not heavy, or a steady white-as it appears in the last photo taken with the flash. Because the flashed out frit caused many of the exquisite details of the artwork to be drastically minimized in our indoor photos, we elected to take a series of outdoor photos, to better show the beautiful painted design that encircles this vase, and the subtle affects of the frit. Marilyn Wagner's signature is clearly visible on the underside of the base. Our photos don't do the quality of the artwork, or this Fenton Burmese beauty justice. This piece tested blacklight positive. Sadly, Fenton announced they are closing their doors after over 100 years of manufacturing the finest of art glass. We salute the Fenton Art Glass Company for providing collectors and enthusiasts of quality art glass with a wide range of wonderful pieces for over a century!
