Fenton Sample Offhand Top Hat by Dave Fetty signed DLF 99. This hat is from the Special Room during 1999 Convention of Fenton Art Glass Collectors Association (FAGCA) and has the original Sample Department 17 label and price on it. Measuring 3 inches tall and brim is 4 1/2 inches wide. Very unusual milk glass exterior with rainbow swirls of brightly colored glass through and interior is a deep wild rose color. This is made all free hand or off hand so I don't know whether the correct term would be overlay or cased. Dr. Measell says it has to be blown glass to be called overlay and I know that Dave Fetty usually starts this type of piece by blowing and then working the shape with wet newspapers so let's just call it offhand glass made by a Master Craftsman. If does have 2 toolmarks on the edge of the brim - See photo 2 but this is inevitable in offhand glass.
