Up for auction this week is a lovely Cruet, produced by Fenton Glass between 1947 - 1953. This cruet is produced in the ever popular and highly collectible Cranberry Opalescent Coin Dot pattern also known as Coin Spot, which features lovely red glass and rich opalescence around clear glass windows or angel eyes, as some call these pieces as a nick name. This piece is in wonderful shape. This is the harder to find version of the Fenton Cruets, the bottle shaped one with the Ring Neck. It also features the ruffled top and pour spout, rather than the smooth, slender neck and pour spout. This cruet is the ware # 1463 Cruet. T is no damage to the cruet body itself or stopper in any way, no nicks, chips, cracks, fractures, repairs or discolorations. I have up a photo of the ruffled top and the stopper so you can see for yourself what wonderful condition this stopper is in. The handle is clear glass and crimped into a Bamboo style with 5 close crimps, and it's very thin and nice. I've not seen them too often with this thin of a handle. The handle does have what I believe might be an internal heat check at the very top, w it bends over to attach to the body. I've held it to the light from several angles and I'm just not sure. Sometimes w the handle attaches forms a "shadow" like appearance, but I do believe this is internally fractured, likely when it cooled in production. The fracture CANNOT be felt from the outside or seen, unless you hold it up to the light. Again, I don't believe this is after market damage, rather done in the cooling of the glass when produced, and thus a manufacturing issue. I have up a photo of the handle, and it can't be seen in the photo, but did want to assure you it's not immediately noticeable, but is nonetheless t This piece stands 7" tall with the stopper in place and is just 5-1/2" tall without the stopper. It is about 3-1/2" wide at the widest part of the round, bottle shaped body and is just 2" wide at the very bottom/base. An example of this piece is shown on Page 30 in John Walk's "Big Book of Fenton Glass, 1940 - 1970", the 5'th edition, the soft covered book. He has a nice chapter on the Cranberry Opalescent Coin Dot that runs from pages 29 - 34. Since this piece was a relatively short protection run, these cruets are getting harder and harder to find, as they are all in collections, and likely folks aren't parting with them. I wouldn't be either, if it wasn't just a need to thin down our collection, and even some of my personal favorites are having to go too. I'm just out of room to display the pieces I like the most. So, t you have it. If t's something that I haven't mentioned , and it matters to you, please drop me a message through ebay messages, and I will be happy to answer you promptly.
