Fenton Favrene (Blue Carnival) Squirrel QVC 2002Listed now is a rare treat-- an elegant Fenton squirrel in their luxurious Favrene glass, similar to a blue carnival. Favrene Glass was first made by Fenton in the 1970's; they were attempting to copy earlier glass treatments from Steuben and Tiffany from the 19th Century. Production problems prevented them from putting the glass into mass production, but they were beautiful, and Fenton filed the formula away for later use on a more limited basis. Fenton began to produce some Favrene items in the 1990's as part of their Connoisseur Collection, and used the color sparingly after that for pieces like this one. The finished Favrene product is treated with carnival glass spray salts to create the "rainbow" iridized effect. You can see it in several of the pictures. It's subtile but beautiful-- ranging from maroon to blue to purple and back again. This piece has wonderful coloring.Favrene was prized by glass lovers of the early 1900's. The glass formula contains silver which must be gently coaxed to the surface by reheating in a special atmosphere. This little squirrel has great coloring -- look at the electric blue -- along with a pretty white flower decoration. This particular item dates from 2002, and Fenton produced it for QVC that year.Measures about 2.75 inches tall.Perfect condition, read more
