This auction features one stunning Fenton Green Opalescent Jack in the Pulpit Vase. The body of the vase is done in a green opalescent oval lattice design which leads the eye upward to the graceful edges of the Jack in the Pulpit. The Art of the Glassmaker is tested to his highest degree in producing this style of vase in glass. Carl Radke of Phoenix Studios in California said, "Jack-in-the-Pulpit' vases are extremely hard to make. Making a Jack iridescent, is ten fold more difficult!" The piece stands 11 inches in height and measures 6 inches in diameter. The vase is in Absolute MINT condition with no chips, cracks, scratches, dimples, flea bites or signs of repair. The underside of the vase has the Fenton name in an oval. The detailing on the pieces is nothing short of breathtaking! A short explanation of Jack-in-the-Pulpit Glass: The name Jack-in-the-Pulpit glass refers to a shape of vase, which has a collar pulled down in the front and raised at the back. It is a similar shape to the flower of the same name. Jack-in-the-Pulpit was the name first used by Louis C. Tiffany to describe some of his beautiful vases around 1900, but a very similar shape of vase was made in England as far back as the 1850's. The Fenton Art Glass Company have made many beautiful shapes and colors of Jack-in-the-Pulpit vases. For some reason Fenton always call them Tulip vases, and not Jack-in-the-Pulpit.
