This Fenton Lotus and Grape boasts extraordinary color. It flashes lots of green, red and purple on a base of vaseline glass. The iridization is uniform and I don't see any chips, cracks or wear. It is the 7" ruffled bowl and it is supported on the underside by three feet making it is very stable. The underside is also irridized. Carnival Glass is made by fuming or spraying hot pressed glass with metallic oxides. This forms an irridescent coating on the surface of the glass that reflects the colors of the rainbow. It is similar to the effect of oil on a puddle of water. Photographs can't totally reproduce the effect of light hitting the glass. These photographs were taken outside in natural light. As a longtime Antique Dealer I have collected a lot of glass. I would never keep anything but the best examples for my own collection. See my other auctions for more great Carnival Glass pieces.
