Up for auction I have another fabulous Item made by the World Famous Fenton Art Glass Company of Williamstown West Virginia in 1942. This is a 9 inch #192a Diamond Optic jug. It is made out of Ruby Overlay glass, which is more commonly called CRANBERRY GLASS by Collectors. For those who don't know...this type of glass was made by Fenton using pure gold in the glass mixture to give it the color you see. When you hold it up to the light and look at the edges you'll notice the glass looks like it's 2 layers. Your eyes aren't fooling you because it is. They start out with a small blob of pure gold ruby glass called a bud and after putting a puff of air or 2 into it they put a layer of crystal over it before blowing the piece out into the moulds. This process is called overlaying or casing. The jug top has been crimped in a Jack in the Pulpit style and the handle has had a bamboo crimp applied to it. I have included a close-up of the handle, and optic below. With Fenton announcing it will be closing it's doors shortly, collectors are going to soon find out that it'll be harder and harder as time goes on to find the GENUINE older pieces of glass Made by Fenton. The color on this piece is outstanding as well as the shape. This piece was formerly on display at the Columbus Museum of Fenton Art Glass. It does not have the Fenton Logo on the bottom and it shouldn't due to when it was made. I have done alot of Fenton research myself and make sure that each piece I sell is researched fully before I list it so newer collectors don't have to wonder if what they are buying is the real thing or not. It stands 9 inches tall (keep in mind that measurements will vary on handmade glass pieces as no two are exactly the same), and 4 1/4 inches across at the widest point. This would be a fabulous piece to add to your collection. Just an all around great piece. It's much prettier in person. This is one of the pieces I recently purchased from a liquidation auction when the Columbus museum of Fenton Art Glass was closed. The Jug is in perfect condition and looks as if it were made yesterday, Fenton is so well known for their carnival and iridescent glass, but they are also good at all of the various types of glass they make to include opalescent glass and the use of optics.. T is no damage to the piece and you can expect it to arrive to you in MUSEUM QUALITY.
