This is a figural owl covered or hinged container, I think it is a candy box. It has a musiic box in the lid that plays when opened. The music box is working, and I opened the top (music box part) to see if there was a makers' mark for the owl. There was not, but the music box was made by Thorens of Switzerland, leading me to believe this is a German made owl. It is silver plated, of plated with a silver material. The branch looks very much like gold gilt. The eyes are a ruby glass, the hinge is nice and tight, and there are a few numbers on the hinge. I cannot figure out what they might signify. There are no visible makers' marks on the piece, perhaps under the base fabric. I am not going to remove the base to find out. He leans toward the back, as shown. There are several small original bolts/studs/screws and nuts used in the construction. I am not sure which need to be "tuned-up" to get him upright again. I decided to not do anything, sell him as he is, crooked. I think with some time and care, he could be "readjusted" back to normal. Nothing seems to be broken or missing. No tarnish or damage, just needs some TLC. It weighs 4 pounds, and the base measures 3 3/4" by 6". He stands 10 1/2" to the top of his ears, and his main body is about 3 1/2" wide. Being sold with no reserve and no Buy-It-Now price. Please ask questions if needed. read more
