Hello and welcome to my auction! I offer for your consideration: A FANTASTIC full figural (front & back) sterling silver souvenir spoon with the depiction of WILLIAM PENN and the LIBERTY BELL in the bowl. (light or dark areas seen are merely a reflection of the camera flash-spoon is bright & shiny!) William Penn (Oct. 14, 1644-July 30, 1718) founded the state of Pennsylvania. He was also know as a famous Quaker and for his "Great Treaty" with the Delaware (Leni Lenape Indian tribe). He was considered the first great hero of American Liberty. (research Google) Measures 5 1/4 inches long. Has a solid weight & balance to it. Stamped on the back side is the maker mark of SHEPARD (S) sterling. Shepard Mfg. Co. Melrose Highlands, Massachusetts Ca. 1893-1923. The highly detailed figural handle is EXQUISITE depicting PENN in his period colonial attire, long hair & hat, document in hand followed by the inscription Penn and a crest or seal underneath. The embossed bowl depicts the MARVELOUS artistry of the LIBERTY BELL with an inscription underneath Proclaim Liberty Throughout the Land. Our photos do not begin to capture the outstanding beauty of this spoon! T is a slight bend on the back of the spoon bowl along the top of the bell. This is not seen from the front and is not a detraction in my opinion. Overall the spoon is in great condition with minimal surface scratches that is typically seen in pieces of this age. A FANTASTIC HISTORICAL souvenir spoon that is sure to bring someone much pleasure for years to come! Perfect for the collector of colonial Americana or Pennsylvania memorabilia!
