Filipino Kris Sword Frame Dimenisons: 33" by 15" by 2.5" Framed Weight: 3 Kg Background Of all the Moro weapons, the kris is certainly the most common and well-known. It was once found in countless different variations in every moro tribe across the Philippines. Worn as a key part of everyday men's attire, the kris was a symbol of one's rank in society. The kris is a very well-balanced, double-edged weapon, which is generally wide at the base. Often, though not always, found with a wavy-blade.. Description The blade, symbolic of the serpent, is 19" long, having 14 waves from tip to base. The serpent design is lightly engraved at the base of the blade. The handle and scabbard follow the cockatua design, representing the cockatoo bird, the head and neck of the bird being the hilt, and the tail-feathers the top of the scabbard. When the sword is placed scabbard-up (like in one of the pictures provided), one can easily see the resemblance. The handle is primarily wooden, with four meticulously designed brass-bands wrapped around the grip. The entire handle is 7-8" long. The scabbard is 27" long. T are 5-bands from the base to the top (tail-like) part of the scabbard. The first, middle and last bands are made of brass, while the other two are silver.
