A rare find! A complete 27 piece J. H Miller chalkware Nativity Set in the original Miller shipping carton and packing, and all in excellent to near mint condition. The set also includes a large lighted manger with a working windup music box installed on the side. The J. H. Miller company started in 1938 and was the primary US maker of nativity sets in the 1940s and 50s. The figures are made of plaster (sometimes referred to as “chalkware”) and hand painted in striking colors . The Miller carton has 20 individual compartments with tissue-wrapped figures and animals.(see photo). It is 14 in. x 12 in. x 12 in. and marked on the outside: “To Teresa -----, 1225 Euclid Ave. Cleveland Ohio . From J. H. Miller Corp. Quincy , IL ”. 1 of the lids is missing but overall the carton is in good condition. The manger is 13 in. x 11 in. h x 6 in. deep and made of wood simulated hard cardboard with a litho picture inside and some straw on the roof. I unwrapped all of the pieces in order to take pictures for this auction, and I may have been the first person to unwrap some of them. As seen in the photos, the set includes: 4 Wise Men (6 in. yellow/gold, pink, kneeling and a black Moor), 3 Angels (standing, 2 smaller ones kneeling), 1 Mary, 1 Joseph, 1 Infant Jesus in a crib, 1 Shepherd Boy (standing in pink), 2 Angels with stickpins to attach read more
