Fine original Oil on a masonite panel dating to around 1930-40 give or take a few years. Signed by the artist in the lower right. Strong WPA or regionalist look to this one. Possibly a Pennsylvania PA river scene, but hard to be sure of the exact location. Signed " Dr S. Gruenwald ". I have been unable to determine exactly who this talented artist is, but possible name variations include Grunwald or Grunewald in addition to Gruenwald. This painting is full of character and has a great look and feel. Housed in a period frame that appears to be original to the painting. An old partial label is affixed to the back of the painting. According to the label, the title of this wonderful painting is "River Barges". Painting measures 26 by 20, with the overall size (outer dimensions including the frame) being 30 1/2 by 24 1/2 inches approximately. Also, there is an old framer's label on the back from "Wheaton's" located in Memphis, TN. The condition of this work is very good with no noted flaws. Would benefit from a light cleaning to bring out the colors more, but displays well as is. Great industrial, nautical, genre type painting to add to your American scene painting collection. Sure to please.
