Fine 19 th Century Five Piece Bone Handled Steel Egyptian Revival Carving Set Up for auction is this marvelous carving set that according to its diamond design registry mark was registered on 17th of February 1878. These are beautiful and majestic things that feel great in your hand. The longest knife is 17 inches long and the shortest fork is 11 inches long. The knife blades are marked: V (crown) R JOSEPH RODGERS & SONS TO HER MAJESTY * + The sharpener is marked: + RODGERS * CUTLERSTO HERMAJESTY All items have two British Design registry marks on them located above the Egyptian masks which have faces on both the front and back. I think the metalwork is all made of steel since t are no hallmarks indicting silver or silver plate for the decoration. The handles are carved bone or possibly antler. The knives are still VERY sharp and the forks each have a flexible brace on the back to anchor it in the meat. All show some age and use but overall they are in excellent condition. The small knife recently acquired a light dusting of rust that can easily be cleaned off by its new owner. Imagine carving your Christmas Goose in true Dickens' style this year with this cutlery. Winning domestic bidder pays 12.00 shipping and insurance. International buyer will pay any additional shipping charges. Good luck and HAPPY BIDDING! Please view my other items. I am back at work selling the contents of a great old Georgia estate and also have hundreds of old school yearbooks posted from the collection of Athens Georgia POP artist Paul Thomas.
