This auction is for a very large and fine antique Chinese jade carving of a mythical beast. A superb piece, and the carver employed the color variations of the stone to great effect, as the pics show. Further, in absolutely MINT condition with no damage of any sort. Carved from a single piece of jade, and it is an extremely large piece, about 10" long and 6" tall including its custom-made wooden stand. It is sometimes hard to date jade pieces, but this piece is definitely antique per an outstanding family history: From a very good Dallas estate, a woman who died recently at age 96. Per the family, purchased by her many years ago and antique at that time and this was one of the few pieces she took with her when she closed her house in our elite Highland Park district about 10 years ago and moved into a retirement home. Overall, I would date it to the ca. 1850 - 1875 era and I do guarantee that this piece is antique and I will cheerfully refund your money (less shipping) with *no questions asked* if you buy it and don't agree that it is antique after you see it in person (but you aren't going to be disappointed). Please note that I think the stand is not as old as the jade carving itself and I would date the stand to about 1900 - 1920.
