This is a beautiful brush pot with painterly blue-and-white decoration from the late Ming period. The slender cylindrical brush holder from the Ming scholar's desk is painted with typical 17th Century cobalt blue which was used by the potters to imitate ink washes. A scene of a scholar with his attendants in a beautiful landscape decorates the exterior in the style of an unrolling hand scroll painting. The upper and lower border are incised with flower scroll and wave patterns respectively to imitate hand scroll mounting brocades. The glaze is of clear white with slight bluish tint typical of late Ming period. The concave flat base and beveled foot rim are unglazed and exposes its fine white porcelain body. Except for some glaze scratches and wears which has been slightly stained, the elegant blue-and-white brush pot is in excellent condition. Size: height: 18.8cm; diameter; 10.4cm
