For auction we have a fine 19c Chinese carved ivory brise fan. This ivory fan was produced in Canton, China around c1840 for export to the West. Good Canton ivory fans are becoming much more difficult to find and this particular type fan is even harder to find when the central reserve has the original commision owners name carved inside. The quality of workmanship is of a very high standard showing good deep relief on the guard sticks as well as even the inner sticks due to the fact that the earlier fans had the carving performed to just one side which gave the artist much more depth to accomplish this feat. The context matter of the scenes are comprised of many figures amoungst garden and pavillion scenes showing willow, prunus and dogwood trees along with leafy plants, flowers, animals, garden seats and benches. T is also a nicely done continuous laurel leaf swag just below the wonderful silk ribbon as well as many sections of fencing, superbly done finials and a wide variety of pagodas and other Chinese buildings and architecture. T are two heavy guard sticks and (21) inner sticks for a total of (23) original complete sticks. Condition is excellent with only a few of the normal background fret bars missing. The color and patina are also superb and the fan shows very well the accomplishments of the Cantonese carvers. Length 7-3/8" x Width (when fully opened) 13". If you collect antique fans or are starting a Asian ivory collection, this would be a fabulous addition to ones collection so bid accordingly! *****In accordance with ebay's rules & regulations regarding the purchase of elephant ivory, any items made from such in whole or part must be shipped within the United States. If you have any questions regarding the purchase or shipping of ivory items to your location, please email me as I will be happy to inform and assit you any way I can. NOTE: Over the past 23 years I have been buying, selling and collecting Asian art and other high quality antiques and collectables. My main emphasis has been working with dealers, designers as well as a core group of serious collectors. About five years ago I decided to start offering some great items from the "Old China Trade" as well as good Japanese 18thc & 19thc antiques on ebay for auction. Not every item I offer will be from these two groups however I will only offer high quality pieces that will continually rise in value through the years to come while giving much enjoyment and satisfaction that other investments cannot provide. Good antiques definately deserve a place in ones financial portfolio. ***Please contact me with any questions, all questions will be answered within 24 hours. ***Buyers please allow up to 10 days for personal checks to clear through bank before shipping takes place. Insurance is optional but highly reccomended, totals will be figured at auctions end.
