This is a superb signed c.19th French spelter bronze figurine modelled as a country woman carrying a sheaf of corn entitled 'Retour des Pres'. The spelter has its name plate to marble base and reads Retour des Pres par A. Moreau (Med.d'Or). The spelter is signed and is by the world famous artist Auguste Moreau who is highly rated as the creator of the most beautiful of spelters. My bronze figurines come from a variety of sources including part clearance collections, quality antique fairs and small private sales which uncover pieces from the 18th,19th, 20th centuries and later periods, and include a variety of bronzes such as animalier, Art Nouveau, Art Deco. This is a very fine spelter figurine and a wonderful subject matter with excellent attention to detail. The spelter figurine is superbly posed and is depicted with a woman who carries a corn bundle in her arms. Impressed signature is to base. Mounted on original marble base. The condition is excellent and age commensurate. An impressive and beautifully detailed spelter which m easures some 12 " height. She is one of a pair being auctioned.
