CA. 1870'S RUSSEL FRISBIE LANDMARK WALKING BEAM STEAM TOY
An exceptional find and eBay offering of the finest example of a Cromwell Ct. built Frisbie steam toy that we have ever seen let alone offered. These are the most desirable of American built steam toys and known as "America's first manufactured steam toy", in what appears to be "as new" condition with 95%+ of original paint and gold filigree with excuisite un-touched aged patina. These are seldom offered and reside only in the finest steam toy collections. From a prominent Maine life-long collection this engine has been in attic storage for several decades. Fine details include: a boiler mounted walking beam engine with twin ornate main frame webbed A-frame columns supporting a 3 3/4" double-tapered webbed beam, the driving end with connecting-rod to crankshaft arm, single 2 1/2" dia. flywheel with ornate dog-tail spokes, the tapered connecting-rod with cross-linkage to wobble-plate cylinder side-mounted valve-chest . The driven end of the beam with connecting-rod to a vertical single cylinder. Other fine details include: the boiler top-mounted engine bed-plate marked Frisbie , Pat'd (what could read app'd for) , the base-plate complete with original fill-plug and spring-loaded safety valve all supported on a 3 1/2" dia. heavy cast tapered boiler with original black paint and gold bright-work with floral motif and "No 2" , the boiler with three ornate legs each with intact feet drilled for mounting. T are no cracks or problems and absolutely no regrets. ( wick type burner not present , we will attempt to locate an appropriate burner for the successful bidder without additional charge, though you are bidding on the engine without a burner).
