An attractive pair of Chinese export porcelain vases, decorated with birds and butterflies, early 19th century Description: On offer is this exquisite pair of Chinese porcelain vases, hand painted under glaze in blue on milky white. The vases are elaborately decorated and show nicely detailed designs. The pair consists of two baluster shaped vases with covers. The vases both have a cover with a lion or foo dog finial. Both vases are fully decorated with a continuous design of birds and butterflies flying within a floral setting. Both top and foot rims are decorated with a continuous flower design. The base of the vases is marked underneath with a Chinese four character mark. The lidded vases stand 11 inches (28cm) high, while their base measures 2,75 inches (87 mm) across. The vases are in good condition, with no breakages, cracks or repairs. Both vases have light chipping to the upper rim, while both covers show distinct chipping (I assume these flaws could be properly restored). Please view the pictures, which give a good impression of the condition of the items and the quality of it's elaborate painting. These vases were made in China in the early 19th century. The shape, pattern, and deep blue color which were used for the decoration, indicates that they were produced in Qianlong (Kien Lung) fashion, which covers a large part of the 18th century (1736 -1795). Because of the demand for popular designs some were produced over a long period, so it is very difficult to date them exactly. From the 16th century onwards many Chinese products were shipped to Europe. Oriental porcelain was imported to The Netherlands by the Dutch East Indies Company (V.O.C.), which had commercial privileges to China and Japan. The wealthy Dutch merchants were fond of the delicate China ware and large quantities were transported to Holland in the 17th and 18th centuries. Most of this Oriental porcelain was displayed in special China cabinets or exhibited on top of furniture. I guarantee age (19th century) of these highly decorative antique collector's items. Please check out my other auctions for more Chinese porcelain. I will be happy to combine shipping for multiple purchases.
