is a charming and diminutive early 19th century hall lantern or bell jar lantern. The glass dome has a wonderful etched leaf and tendril motif. This unusual dome has an elongated base that terminates in a molded flower form. Within the dome is a hollow cylinder (candle holder) with a folded rim. This early lighting retains its original handblown smoke bell. The hardware also appears to be handmade and original. Griffin head hooks. I am not sure of the material, although the band appears to be tin. The dome itself measures 10 inches tall and 5 inches in diameter at its widest. The overall height including the chain and smoke bell is nearly 16 inches. This excellent hall lantern has no chips or cracks and would make an outstanding addition to any collection of early lighting or antiques.
